Here are some pictures of the rental car:
It was kind of a mass generic SUV.
Pickup was acceptable even with Eco mode on.
The vehicle really did not like taking corners fast at all and had a pretty fair amount of body roll.
A lot of the conditions were snowy, icy, or wet during our drive and we noticed that even with minor amounts of slip you got a ton of ABS feedback through the brake pedal and stopping distances were kind of abysmal.
Being a rental and the LX V6 it meant no navigation, no heated seats (would have been really nice), and no leather or fancy climate controls.
On the bright side, we did have room for Holly's sister and a bike in the back. Also the headlights were decent.
I think we would have been okay with the 4 cylinder version.
Kia's website claims 18 city / 25 highway for the 2015. On our trip on highways, mainly down rather empty NJ Turnpike and I-95 we were averaging between 16-17 mpg while driving in Eco and primarily in cruise control. The fuel economy was occasionally decent according to the instantaneous and average readouts when we were driving on the back roads in MA ("downhill" adds Holly) but this quickly eroded during our highway driving.
Also, we were supposed to get a Toyota Prius from Budget, and Holly was looking forward to pictures of me driving a Prius. Unfortunately we didn't end up with one because while Budget's website would let you book one the person at Budget told us she'd never had a Prius to give us let alone anyone else. But at least our price was fixed at the lower Prius figure than the SUV figure. Unfortunately our fuel consumption was not.
